Pastor of Ministry Development

Looking for Something Different?

Common Ground Church is serious about a few things: Grace. Biblical truth. Ordinary people. Developing leaders. Reaching people disconnected from church. And giving talented people room to become more. We exist to help people discover God’s surprising love and build their lives on it. We believe churches can be deeply committed to Scripture without becoming religious, serious about discipleship without becoming complicated, and committed to excellence without forgetting that ministry is ultimately about people.

Around here, “Welcome to Different” isn’t just a slogan. It reflects the church we are trying to be.We believe grace should be more than something a church teaches—it should shape how a church treats people. We believe biblical truth matters even when it challenges us. We believe God does extraordinary things through ordinary people who discover their gifts and are trusted with meaningful ministry. In our opinion, pastors succeed not simply by what they accomplish, but by the people they develop. That is the kind of church we are building. We're looking for a Pastor of Ministry Development who wants to help us build what comes next.

The Opportunity

This is not a traditional associate pastor position built around maintaining programs. We are looking for a pastor who loves people, teaches God’s Word well, develops leaders, thinks strategically, and wants meaningful responsibility in shaping the future of a growing church. This pastor will work closely with the Lead Pastor as a key ministry partner with significant responsibility for discipleship, leadership development, teaching, shepherding, and ministry development. A particular priority will be developing ministry among young adults, young families, and emerging leaders, while strengthening discipleship throughout the church.

At Common Ground, we believe life change happens through relationships. Grace produces transformation. Pastors equip people for ministry rather than simply doing ministry for them. Healthy systems should make ministry easier, not more complicated.

Most importantly, we believe one of the greatest things a leader can do is develop another leader. If you need to personally control everything you lead, this probably isn't the right church for you. If you find genuine joy in seeing someone you developed flourish, we should probably talk.

What You'll Do

The role is broad, but the mission is straightforward: help people grow and help ministry grow through people.

You will:

  • Share in the pastoral care and shepherding of the church
  • Become an active part of the Sunday teaching rotation, with the opportunity to grow toward approximately one-third of Sundays over time
  • Strengthen our discipleship pathway and other environments for Biblical growth
  • Build ministry among young adults, young families, and emerging leaders
  • Identify, develop, coach, and release leaders
  • Strengthen our leadership pipeline
  • Develop Bible teachers, ministry leaders, and future pastors
  • Help ministries align around our mission, values, and discipleship strategy
  • Help build the organizational structure necessary for healthy future growth
  • Serve as part of the senior leadership of the church, contributing to strategic planning, ministry development, and shaping what comes next

We aren't looking for someone to personally do all the ministry.

We're looking for someone who can build people who build ministry.

Who We're Looking For

Character, cultural fit, and leadership trajectory matter as much to us as résumé. We're looking for someone who:

  • Loves Christ and demonstrates Biblical and spiritual maturity
  • Is committed to the authority of Scripture and the transforming power of grace
  • Loves people and possesses a genuine shepherd's heart
  • Can teach Scripture clearly, faithfully, and practically
  • Has demonstrated pastoral ministry experience
  • Shows the ability to develop leaders rather than simply manage volunteers
  • Thinks strategically and can turn ideas into action
  • Understands that healthy organization serves ministry rather than becoming ministry
  • Is emotionally mature, relationally intelligent, collaborative, and teachable
  • Is comfortable both leading and learning
  • Wants to build something rather than simply inherit something

Pastoral ministry experience is preferred, particularly in a growing church or a ministry involving discipleship, teaching, and leadership development. We value demonstrated gifting, character, and potential as much as years of experience. We're not looking for a finished product or a perfect résumé. We're looking for the right pastor.

We'll Invest in You too

We believe leadership development should apply to pastors as much as anyone else. The Lead Pastor and senior leaders will intentionally invest in your development in preaching, pastoral leadership, strategic thinking, organizational leadership, discipleship, and leadership development. You will be given meaningful responsibility—not simply tasks to complete—and the freedom to develop as trust and effectiveness grow. There will be room to learn, room to lead, and room to grow. We aren't simply hiring someone for what Common Ground needs today. We're investing in the pastor you can become.

Where This Could Go

We view this as a long-term investment in the pastoral leadership of Common Ground. As the church grows, this role can grow with it. Greater teaching responsibility and broader ministry leadership are natural possibilities as gifting, character, effectiveness, trust, and calling develop. For someone with broader organizational leadership gifts, the role could eventually grow into executive-level responsibility as the needs of the church change. We're not trying to predetermine that path. We want to discover what God has placed in the right leader and give that person room to develop it.

What we are offering is a meaningful seat at the table, significant ministry responsibility, intentional development, and an opportunity to help shape the next chapter of Common Ground Church. If you're looking for a church where grace matters, Scripture leads, ordinary people are trusted with ministry, leaders are developed, disconnected people matter, and you will have room to grow, we'd like to hear from you.
