The Ignite Director is the chief architect and leader of the youth ministry for the purpose of helping Good News Community Church live out its mission "to be and to make disciples of Jesus Christ who love God, love others, and serve the world."
Accountable to: Associate Pastor
Anticipated Time Commitment: Estimated 10 Hours Per Week
Specific Responsibilities For The Ignite Director:
- Provide leadership, vision, planning, and strategy for Ignite (the church's youth ministry for 6th through 12th graders) that transforms teens into disciples of Jesus Christ who love God, love others, and serve the world.
- Recruit, lead, train, support, and assist volunteers throughout Ignite who lead and serve the various aspects of the ministry - you can't do everything all by yourself and Ephesians tells us our job is to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry.
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of both Sunday morning class(s) for teens and an evening youth group for teens.
- Provide a minimum of 6 special events for teens per year.
- Facilitate a minimum of one camp experience per year.
- Coordinate with the Connections Director to ensure all first-time teens and their families are followed up on and properly assimilated.
- Implement systems to integrate and connect teens into the overall life of the church, including serving in other areas of the ministry, such as kids Zone, worship team etc.
- Oversee theology and curriculum choices used throughout Ignite.
- Communicate about Ignite to the core leaders, congregation, and community.
- Ensure all aspects of Ignite adheres to Good News' Protection Procedure Policy.
Paid Staff Expectations:
- Maintain a healthy, growing relationship with God, through the Bible and prayer.
- Hold a Bible centered, evangelical Christian theology.
- Hold the conviction that the local church exists to bring glory to God through both evangelism of non-Christians and discipleship of believers.
- Become an Owner of Good News Church (kind of like membership).
- Consistently set and strive towards goals for your area of ministry.
- Actively participate in weekly staff meeting and/or a monthly meeting with direct report.
- Maintain healthy relationships with the congregation and the leadership.
- Engage in lifelong learning through books, coaching, conferences, classes, and more.
- Communicate about your area of ministry to the leadership, the congregation, and the community.
- Be ready to laugh and enjoy life - don't be a stick in the mud.
- Live within a 20 minute drive of the church building.
