Our identity

Cypress Valley Bible Church is a non-denominational church that began with a Bible study in 1975. We are located in Marshall, TX, a town of about 25,000 people. Our Church consists of people from Marshall and several surrounding East Texas communities. We typically have 625 to 700 people attend on Sunday mornings, which includes children and teenagers. Our purpose is to help people grow in their relationship with God.

Our regularly scheduled meetings

  • Sunday am: We have services on Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11:00 and adult groups meet at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00.
  • Kids/Students: Tot Town (babies-4 yrs.), Kidz Church (K-5th), and Student Life (6th-12th) take place on Sunday mornings.  Kidz Life (K-5th) and Going Deeper (6th-12th) take place on Wednesday evenings during the school year.
  • Bible Studies: Men’s and women’s Bible studies take place on Wednesday mornings.
  • Celebrate Recovery: Celebrate Recovery takes place on Thursday evenings.
  • Lord’s Supper: We have weekly Lord’s Supper meetings on Sundays (5:30-6:30 p.m.) and Tuesdays (6:30-7:30 p.m.), during which we share in a potluck supper. In addition there is teaching and discussion of God’s Word, singing, prayers, and most importantly, the remembrance of Christ and what He did for us on the cross.

Our leadership model

We believe that the local church is to be led and shepherded by a plurality of elders with equal authority.  We do not believe that the local church is to be led and shepherded by one man with special authority.

Our primary need

Bob Bryant has served as a pastor-teacher at Cypress Valley Bible Church since the church began 49 years ago. He is 75 years old but remains very active in ministry and has no immediate plans to retire. However, we need someone to help offset some of the preaching and teaching responsibilities and, over time, assume more of those responsibilities.

Summary of roles

Preaching/Teaching

  • Preach on Sunday mornings, 15-20 times per year to start. This will progressively change over an indefinite period of time, eventually leading to weekly.
  • Teach the weekly Wednesday morning men’s Bible study 15-20 times per year. This role may change over time.
  • Work with Bob to oversee the teaching that occurs at our weekly Lord’s Supper meetings. This role may change over time and includes:
    • Help choose curriculum.
    • Coach a rotation of 10+ men (including you) who lead the discussions.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or duties will be determined based on the skills and interests of the final candidate.

Meetings

  • Attend and participate in weekly 3-hour staff meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly 2-hour Wednesday morning meetings to plan for Sunday Services.
  • Attend and participate in weekly 3-hour elders meetings.
  • Attend 1 Lord’s Supper per week (2 when teaching).
  • Attend 1 Sunday morning service per week (2 when preaching) and attend adult ministries/kids/student groups weekly on a rotating basis.

Staff/Leader/Church body engagement

  • Actively be a welcoming and engaging presence on Sunday mornings and mid-week events (adults, teens, and children.
  • Reach out to people as often as possible to get to know them and encourage them (lunch, phone, meetings, etc…)
  • Disciple people with whom you connect, individually and/or as a group, as a part of their leadership development.
  • Meet with people who ask to talk with you about problems and concerns.
  • Conduct funerals and weddings as requested by families and engaged couples.

Our current staff

In addition to Bob Bryant, we have an Adult Pastor, Kids Director, Youth Director, Worship/Technical Director, Bookkeeper, Maintenance Director, and a Tot Town leader.

Personal administration

  • Maintain your own schedule, calendar, and administrative details.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates the gift of pastor-teacher, meaning he is gifted as a preacher/teacher, and has a genuine love for people.
  • Is teachable.
  • Exhibits the character traits listed in the qualifications for an elder in I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, and I Peter 5:2-3.
  • Agrees with the Cypress Valley Bible Church Doctrinal Statement.

Compensation

Compensation would include a full-time salary based on qualifications and experience, health benefits, 403b, and PTO.
