Job description
Summary

As part of a congregation staff team at the Austin Stone Community Church, the Summer Ministry Intern (SMI) will use the summer to provide discipleship by capitalizing on contact work, relational ministry, and showing ministry participants the love of Jesus. The SMI will share Spirit led truth and love to ministry participants through an 8-week, 10-week, or 12-week summer internship program. The SMI will report to the Ministry Director.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform contact work by pursuing and spending time with ministry participants.
  • Shepherd and disciple Congregation ministry participants, as well as supporting ministry participants across all congregations when needed.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, communicating, leading, and executing summer events and trips, including worship nights, bible studies, hangout days, camps, etc.
  • Respond to and execute tasks and assignments in a timely manner.
  • Participate in your ongoing development including a summer reading plan, accountability, and discipleship by your supervisor.
  • Attend Sunday Church Services.
  • Attend weekly meetings including congregation team, department team, specific ministry team, and all staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience shepherding people in the gospel
  • Be willing, flexible, and open-minded to unexpected events and responsibilities
Competencies

Administration - Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement ministry programming. Integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan. Strong ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, with dependability and excellence.

Communication - Has clarity of speech and proper use of grammar. Demonstrated capacity to inspire, instruct, and encourage through effective communication in various settings. Able to communicate and work within a complex organizational structure with multiple layers of input. Ability to engage, interact with, teach, equip, and train ministry participants in a large group setting.

Detail Oriented & Organizational Skills - Proven skills in creating, implementing, maintaining, and following through on processes that ensure people are engaged, cared for, informed and connected. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. Able to successfully develop new and better ways to work and promote a continuous improvement mentality.

Collaboration - Collaborate across the organization and with various ministry partners. Ability to integrate multiple perspectives and synthesize them into a cohesive plan.

  • Occasional lifting of objects, up to 30 pounds.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, and similar machines.
