SpiritCare Ministry to Seniors is seeking a Treasurer with accounting experience to support its mission in the San Francisco Bay Area. This volunteer position requires a commitment of three years and entails managing financial accounts, bookkeeping, tax-related issues, and insurance matters, with an expected time commitment of 10-20 hours per month. The Treasurer will enter transactions into SpiritCare's accounting system, create monthly financial reports for the board of directors, manage payroll, log donations in Salesforce, and file necessary tax forms with federal and state authorities. Additionally, the Treasurer will collaborate with board members to develop an annual budget, work closely with insurance agents to maintain proper coverage, invoice organizations for services rendered, and communicate with donors, providing tax receipts as needed.

SpiritCare Ministry to Seniors is dedicated to serving the spiritual and emotional needs of the elderly living in long-term care centers. They achieve this by sharing the comfort and encouragement of the gospel of Jesus Christ, providing chaplaincy services for hospital residents and staff, and organizing worship and visitation teams from various churches and community groups. Additionally, the ministry is committed to educating the public about the important issues of aging and spirituality through publications, seminars, and special events.

Qualifications

The Treasurer is expected to reside in the San Francisco Bay Area with the ability to attend board meetings and SpiritCare events as needed. Other requirements:

  1. Expert in using office productivity tools, e.g. Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  2. Excellent communications - written, online and in person.
  3. Ability to take online training, e.g. from vendor webinars, YouTube videos and Zoom sessions with SpiritCare volunteers.
  4. Degree in accounting, management, finance or a related experience.
  5. The Treasurer is required to agree to the Bylaws and Ethics Statement of SpiritCare which will be sent to candidates on request.
Responsibilities
  1. Entering transactions into SpiritCare's accounting system and managing transactions at SpiritCare's bank.
  2. Creating financial reports showing income, expenses and balance sheet each month for the board of directors.
  3. Managing payroll and paying SpiritCare's employees.
  4. Logging donations and donors in Salesforce, creating monthly reports on donors for the board of directors.
  5. Filing tax forms with both the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the State of California.
  6. Filing forms that nonprofits are required to file with the State of California.
  7. Working with board members to create an annual budget to be approved by the board of directors.
  8. Working with insurance carriers and agents to obtain and maintain workers' compensation and liability insurance for the board, employees, and the nonprofit.
  9. Invoicing and collecting payment from organizations that SpiritCare bills, typically care communities.
  10. Communicating with organizations that donate to SpiritCare, sending tax receipts where required.
