GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Special Needs and Early Childhood Pastor works with the Kids Pastor to lead both the Special Needs Ministry and the Early Childhood programs within Kids Ministry. This role includes vision casting, leading, shepherding, and equipping staff, servant leaders, and parents.
DUTIES
  • Kids/Special Needs Ministry Staff Development and Leadership.
    • Supervise and manage staff including Early Childhood Coordinator and Special Needs Coordinator.
    • Oversee Sunday morning experience for Special Needs and Early Childhood environments.
    • Servant Leader Culture and Shepherding
      • Cast vision and provide pastoral support to the team of servant leaders who serve in both ministry areas
      • Oversee quality and effectiveness of Servant Leader training and development
      • Provide pastoral support to servant leaders in time of need
      • Provide oversight and direction for curriculum and programming for Sunday morning experience in Early Childhood and in Special Needs rooms
    • Ministering to Special Needs Parents
      • Work with Special Needs Coordinator to develop clear on-ramps for new families who want to be a part the Sunday morning experience and/or the Special Needs Support group
      • Shepherd parents in times of need
      • Oversee Special Needs support group and connect with lay leaders for special events
      • Partner with Special Needs Coordinator to lead Special Needs Sunday and the Special Needs Christmas Party
    • Other Duties/Responsibilities of Position
      • Staff liaison for Joni and Friends Camps
      • Work with Kids Pastor to provide support for Fine Arts Day Camp and Pine Cove City summer camps
      • Provide support for Kids Pastor during Parent Child Dedications

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Considerable understanding of the Bible and Indwelling Christ theology.
  • Proven collaborative leader and advocate for shared leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain healthy and motivating relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and servant leaders.
  • Ability to counsel team members, kids, students, and/or their parents in times of need.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate, support, lead, and communicate with a large range of ages and stages of life.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Well-organized with good time management and project management abilities.
  • High level of initiative and follow-through.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • College degree preferred
  • Bible or seminary training preferred
  • Previous experience in youth ministry or in special needs ministry and/or education and have completed an undergraduate degree or work experience equivalent in this field.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PASTORS
  • Be in wholehearted agreement with Bent Tree's Statement of Faith.
  • Perform sacerdotal functions as needed: communion, funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.
  • Perform duties revolving around ongoing shepherding and pastoral care: pastoral counseling, hospital visits, conflict resolution, marriage counseling, marriage prep sessions, benevolence counseling, etc., as needed.
  • Intentionally embrace the Staff Values by operating In Humility (Philippians 2:3-8), On Mission (Matthew 28:18-20), and With Each Other (Hebrews 10:19-25).
  • Bent Tree Bible Fellowship member or willing to become one as a condition of employment
  • Active, growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Be licensed or ordained by Bent Tree
