About Otterbein United Brethren Church

Otterbein United Brethren Church is a long-established congregation in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, with roots in the community dating back to 1829. Today, Otterbein is a church of approximately 250 people committed to the infallible Word of God. The church is known for generosity, a strong volunteer spirit, a mission-minded posture, and meaningful investment in the local community. Otterbein is seeking a Senior Pastor who shares a vision to reach and disciple more families in the community.

Position Summary

The Senior Pastor will serve as Otterbein’s primary spiritual leader—preaching and teaching Scripture faithfully, shepherding the congregation with wisdom and care, and providing leadership that strengthens unity, fellowship, and disciple-making. This role is both pastoral and organizational, requiring relational maturity, spiritual depth, and the ability to lead a church forward with clarity and humility.

Key Responsibilities

Preaching, Teaching, and Worship Leadership

  • Preach and teach the Word of God in a way that is biblically faithful, clear, and applicable to daily life.
  • Provide leadership for the overall worship life of the church in partnership with ministry leaders and volunteers.
  • Help cultivate a church culture marked by spiritual growth, unity, and joy in Christ.

Pastoral Shepherding and Congregational Care

  • Lead with a shepherd’s heart—caring for people across life stages and spiritual maturity levels.
  • Build strong relationships within the church body and remain attentive to the needs of the congregation.
  • Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and guidance, especially in seasons of crisis, transition, or spiritual need.

Leadership, Vision, and Church Health

  • Provide leadership that fosters unity and strengthens fellowship across the congregation.
  • Lead the church in pursuing spiritual health and mission, including a shared desire to reach more families in the community.
  • Equip and mobilize people to serve—encouraging faithful stewardship of time, talent, and resources.

Community Engagement and Mission

  • Strengthen the church’s local community presence through meaningful engagement and relationships.
  • Champion the church’s mission-minded priorities and encourage ongoing participation in mission efforts.

Qualifications and Fit

  • A clear commitment to the authority of Scripture and alignment with Otterbein United Brethren Church’s doctrinal convictions.
  • Demonstrated pastoral leadership marked by compassion, integrity, and relational maturity.
  • Strong communication and preaching gifts with the ability to connect Scripture to everyday life.
  • A proven ability to build relationships across generations, cultivate unity, and lead with a shepherd’s heart.
  • A missional mindset with a genuine desire to reach the surrounding community and help people grow in faith.
