Job description

MinistryHub is honored to partner with FBC South Richmond in their search for a Media Director. Please direct all applications through MinistryHub and any inquiries to hello@ministryhub.org.

  • Are you a media leader who sees production not simply as technology, but as ministry?
  • Do you know how to lead people, build strong systems, and create worship experiences that engage people both in the room and online?
  • Are you energized by the opportunity to bring creative vision and technical excellence to a dynamic, intergenerational church with a growing digital reach?

About First Baptist Church of South Richmond

First Baptist Church of South Richmond is a historic, predominantly Black church with a ministry legacy dating back more than 200 years. Today, FBCSR is one church worshiping across two locations in Richmond and North Chesterfield, with an intergenerational congregation of approximately 1,000 people gathering each Sunday.

FBCSR is committed to being relevant while remaining reverent, reaching people for Christ, serving its community, and pursuing excellence in ministry. The church is active, fast-paced, and deeply shaped by worship, fellowship, community engagement, and teamwork.

The Opportunity

First Baptist Church of South Richmond is seeking a full-time Media Director to provide creative, technical, and team leadership across the church’s media ministry. This person will oversee the audio, video, livestream, presentation, photography, digital content, and visual production that support worship, teaching, special events, and ministry throughout the week.

This is more than a Sunday production role. FBCSR is seeking a Media Director who can help strengthen the full media experience of the church - from in-room worship and livestream production to digital content and ongoing engagement throughout the week. This leader will build on an existing volunteer foundation while developing people, improving systems, and bringing strategic vision to how FBCSR communicates and extends its ministry through media.

Primary Responsibilities

Worship, Production, and Digital Ministry

  • Lead media operations for Sunday worship across both locations, Tuesday teaching, and other church services and events.
  • Direct cameras and oversee ProPresenter, livestream, audio/visual, lighting, presentation, and production elements to create a seamless worship experience.
  • Work closely with pastors, the Minister of Music, musicians, staff, and volunteers to support service flow and respond to live-production needs.
  • Approach livestream production from the perspective of the online viewer, using thoughtful camera direction, transitions, graphics, audio, and pacing to create an engaging worship experience.
  • Identify meaningful moments from worship, preaching, music, and ministry for reels, social media, photography, and ongoing digital engagement.
  • Provide media leadership for funerals, weddings, revivals, conferences, holiday services, and other major church events.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, schedule, train, encourage, and develop media staff and volunteers across camera, presentation, audio, livestream, photography, and other production roles.
  • Recruit and develop additional volunteers, creating a healthy pipeline of people who can serve with skill, confidence, and a ministry mindset.
  • Build a professional, welcoming, accountable, and servant-hearted team culture.
  • Develop leaders, workflows, and clear expectations so the ministry can operate consistently with excellence.

Creative Direction and Brand

  • Steward and strengthen FBCSR’s visual identity across worship environments, livestreams, graphics, social media, and ministry communications.
  • Create or coordinate high-quality graphics, sermon and event slides, lower thirds, worship backgrounds, promotional materials, and digital assets as needed.
  • Maintain consistency between internally produced content and work created by outside partners.
  • Bring a discerning eye for visual composition, storytelling, transitions, branding, and the details that shape the experience of both in-person and online audiences.
  • Use current creative tools, including appropriate AI-assisted tools, to increase efficiency while maintaining quality.

Strategy, Systems, and Technology

  • Assess current media workflows, equipment, team structures, and production systems and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures that create consistency across locations, services, volunteers, and events.
  • Evaluate equipment needs and provide expert recommendations for maintenance, upgrades, and future production capabilities.
  • Help move the ministry from reactive problem-solving toward proactive planning, preparation, and strategic development.
  • Remain composed, flexible, and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced ministry environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a spiritually grounded, technically capable, and relational leader with a genuine heart for ministry.

  • A vibrant Christian faith and understanding of media as an integral part of the church’s mission.
  • Demonstrated experience in live production, church media, broadcasting, events, or a related environment.
  • Proficiency with ProPresenter, livestreaming, video switching, camera direction, AV systems, and live-service troubleshooting.
  • Creative instincts in visual storytelling, social media, graphic design, branding, and digital content.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop staff and volunteers while building clear systems, workflows, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to serve effectively within a historic, predominantly Black church; familiarity with Black church worship culture is strongly valued.
  • A portfolio or examples of previous media work will be an important part of the candidate process. Formal education in media, production, communications, or a related field is welcome but not required.

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a full-time, approximately 40-hour-per-week position requiring dedicated focus and flexibility around the rhythms of church ministry, including worship services, production preparation, special events, and other ministry priorities.

FBCSR operates with a hybrid staff culture, but the Media Director will need to be regularly present for worship services, production preparation, Tuesday programming, special events, and other onsite responsibilities. Evening and weekend availability is an expected part of the role.

Compensation

Salary Range: $60,000–$65,000, depending on experience. Generous benefits package also included.
