Do you enjoy working with your hands, solving practical problems, and using your construction skills to serve others?

Are you looking for meaningful work where quality craftsmanship and compassionate service can make a tangible difference in someone’s life?

About Good Neighbors Home Repair

Good Neighbors Home Repair is a Christ-centered nonprofit committed to helping low-income homeowners live in homes that are safer, healthier, and more livable. Through critical home repairs and accessibility modifications, Good Neighbors seeks to serve and care for people in need while following Christ’s example of compassion and love for our neighbors.

Based in Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, Good Neighbors serves homeowners throughout southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware through the work of skilled staff, volunteers, contractors, churches, and community partners.

The Opportunity

Good Neighbors is seeking a skilled and dependable Home Repair & Construction Technician to perform and assist with a wide variety of residential repair, renovation, and accessibility projects. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys diagnosing problems, working across multiple construction trades, and completing quality repairs that directly improve the safety and well-being of homeowners.

This position is full-time. The Home Repair & Construction Technician reports to the Operations Director and will work both independently and alongside staff members and volunteer teams.

Primary Responsibilities

Home Repair & Construction

  • Assess residential repair needs and determine appropriate materials, tools, and repair methods.
  • Perform a broad range of home repairs and renovation work, including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, doors and windows, roofing and exterior repairs.
  • Complete basic to intermediate plumbing and electrical repairs, such as fixtures, faucets, toilets, switches, receptacles, lighting, and related troubleshooting.
  • Install accessibility and safety improvements including grab bars, handrails, ramps, steps, and other modifications.
  • Diagnose problems and develop practical, safe, and cost-conscious repair solutions.

Project & Team Responsibilities

  • Work independently and collaboratively with Good Neighbors staff, contractors, and volunteer teams.
  • Provide practical guidance and assistance to volunteers when assigned.
  • Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites while protecting homeowners’ property.
  • Complete projects according to established schedules and quality standards and document completed work as required.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with homeowners, volunteers, staff, churches, contractors, and community partners.

Christian Ministry & Homeowner Care

  • Approach each project as an opportunity to reflect the love of Christ through both the quality of the work and the way homeowners are treated.
  • Serve homeowners with patience, compassion, dignity, and without judgment, respecting people from different backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Be willing to pray with and minister to homeowners appropriately as opportunities arise.
  • Represent Good Neighbors and its Christian mission with integrity, humility, and a servant-hearted approach.

Qualifications

  • Experience in residential construction, remodeling, maintenance, or home repair.
  • Working knowledge across common residential construction and repair practices.
  • Ability to safely operate common hand and power tools and troubleshoot practical repair needs.
  • Comfortable performing a variety of hands-on repair work rather than specializing in only one trade.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
  • Personal Christian faith and genuine alignment with Good Neighbors’ Christ-centered mission and commitment to serving neighbors with compassion.
  • Commitment to safe, responsible job-site practices.
  • Ability to lift construction materials, climb ladders, and perform the physical requirements associated with residential repair work.
