Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator

1. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR OUR CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES (approx. 5 hours/ week)

Theological Vision  

• Provide child-oriented opportunities for theological and spiritual formation in the areas of peace and social justice for children through 5th grade, with the support of the Children’s Commission and Lead Pastor.  
• Work with the Worship Commission concerning appropriate traditions and rituals around intergenerational worship services and transition between Sunday School classes.

• Select curriculum and support teachers in lesson planning, with support from Lead Pastor.

   

Community Facilitation

• Work with the Worship Commission and Lead Pastor to support engagement of children during services.
• Liaison with parents to discern, develop and communicate expectations for children and families (during worship service; before, during, and after events; regarding use of facilities; regarding parental supervision).
• Help Children’s Commission onboard volunteers.
• Be a consistent presence with children, including occasional scheduled teaching and being a presence in the classrooms and in Sunday worship services.
• Coordinate childcare and/or children’s programming for special events (congregational meetings, church retreat, etc.)
• Oversee implementation of the Child Safety Policy with the support of the Children’s Commission and Leadership Team.
    

2. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR OUR YOUTH MINISTRIES (approx. 5 hours/ week)

Theological Vision

• Provide Youth-oriented opportunities for theological and spiritual formation in the areas of peace and social justice for youth 6th through 12th grade with the support of the Youth Commission and Lead Pastor. 
• Coordinate rites of passage, traditions and rituals for those graduating into youth group, graduating from high school, mentor program, etc. 
• Coordinate one Youth Sunday worship service per year in conjunction with the Worship Commission. 
• Oversee programming opportunities for Youth with the support of parent and volunteer facilitation. 
• Make connections with children and youth at PMC. 

• Liaison with the Mentoring Program Coordinator, who coordinates pairing adult mentors with youth between 6th through 12th grade.

   

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A commitment to minister to the children and youth of a peace-seeking Mennonite congregation.
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Bible, theology or child-related field. Other fields can be considered.
• 2 years’ experience working with children and/or youth preferred; less time can be considered.
• Be spiritually committed to an active prayer life and self-reflective spiritual journey.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Experience in working with groups with different points of view, fostering curiosity towards different points of view.

   

We are supportive of this position entering licensure if desired.
  
Will need to complete PMC’s Child Safety Training, including criminal background check (Live Scan). 

We are open to working with students who are looking for college or graduate-level apprenticeship/ internship credits for apprenticeships/ internships of at least 3 months.
