About the Analysis Directorate

We are passionate about improving justice outcomes through innovative research, data and analysis. In the Analysis Directorate, we provide high quality data and analysis helping to ensure strategic, policy, finance, corporate and operational decisions are based on robust evidence.

What you'll do

The Analysis Assurance Area is a new area aimed at investigating opportunities to refine and improve our analytical products. The area won't be responsible for analytical quality assurance, this will still be the responsibility of the team conducting the analysis. The Analysis Assurance area will understand best practice and approaches to analysis within and external to the department to develop a framework for analytical review and improvement. It will also look at analysis and outputs to consider the data used, the analytical approach, the assumptions made, the uncertainty in the estimates and identify opportunities for increased precision.

There is 1 HEO role available and it will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of business-critical reviews, understanding and accounting for the complex systems the analysis is representing, working with analytical teams to improve what they are delivering and communicating your work to senior leaders.
  • Contributing to determining how we review analysis and improve our analytical outputs.
  • Helping to identify fundamental gaps in our understanding that we can help to fill - e.g. through curation of new or improved datasets.

Who you are

The following experience and skills will be required:

  • Communicating and influencing - able to communicate complex analysis in a way non-technical audiences can understand.
  • Working together - able to work with stakeholders to understand their analytical approaches and needs and consider suggestions for improvements.
  • Delivering at pace - deliver consistent and timely reviews of analysis that add value.
  • Analytical - an ability to understand and bring together complex datasets.
  • Analytical - a good understanding of quantitative/analytical modelling and limitations of various approaches.

How to apply

You'll need to submit an anonymised CV and Statement of Suitability as part of your application. Your CV should be no more than 2 pages long and your Statement of Suitability should be no more than 750 words.

Selection Process

There will be an initial sift of applicants through comparing submitted evidence against the 'Who you are' bullets. Those who make it through the initial sift will be invited to a Civil Service Success Profile interview.
